Adults

    The disease affects flexural areas primarily. The skin surface in these locations becomes chronically inflamed (reddened) and lichenified (thickened) after years of being rubbed. The thickening is easily recognized by the prominence of the skin lines as well as the "leathery" feel of the skin surface.
